DESCRIPTION:Our first special out of four evenings that explore Ukraine through film\, art\, and conversation. Each evening has its own focus\, yet together they form a powerful narrative of loss\, resilience\, hope\, and cultural pride. \nPlaton Tolstik presents Atlantis together with film maker Serhii Kastornyh\, currently living in the Netherlands. They talk about film\, personal insights and the film’s director process.   \nAtlantis (2019)\n\nIt is 2025\, and the war between Ukraine and Russia has come to an end. That marks the beginning of the then still futuristic film Atlantis.  \nEx-soldier Sergey is mentally scarred by the violence but tries to rebuild his life. After being dismissed from the local steel factory\, he finds a new job delivering clean drinking water to the few remaining residents of the polluted region. He comes into contact with Black Tulip\, an organization that searches for the bodies of fallen soldiers to give them a proper burial. Sergey volunteers to help. The work is gruesome but brings him a sense of calm and redemption. When a small spark ignites between him and fellow volunteer Katya\, we even glimpse a flicker of hope.  \nIn contrast with the film’s bleak themes\, Atlantis is a feast for the eyes.
